OAKDALE—There comes a time in every canine’s life when he must transition from puppyhood to doghood. And that time has come for Sparky, a native Pug who’s just turned 1 and 6/7ths years old. Three hundred friends and family members gathered Saturday for Sparky’s Bar Mitzvah at Lake Sharkey Country Club.
Of course, with such a passage comes new responsibilities. No longer can Sparky run carefree as in the days of his youth. Such running must now be tempered with fetching, lap sitting and rolling over for cheese biscuits.
But Sparky is happy to embrace such things to join the ranks of full “doghood.” Now, he can look forward to a life of companionship with his owner, as well as respect from his fellow canines.
Or, to put it in his own words, “Who’s the runt now, eh? I’m totally going to sniff so much behind.”
