We rarely say this, but this is the one time you might not want to bring your dog! Keep your furry friend safe and stress-free this Fourth of July with these essential tips.
- Keep Them Indoors: Fireworks can startle our pets, and the Fourth has the highest rate of dogs running away. Stay with them when they’re outside, and make sure they have ID tags on.
- Know Their Noise Tolerance: Just like humans, pets have different tolerances to noise. If loud noises stress them out, it’s best to keep them at home.
- Prepare a Safe Space: Create a cozy, quiet spot with their favorite things, including some of their favorite toys, comfortable bedding, food, and water.
- Use Pheromones & Calming Sounds: Calming music can help reduce stress, and pheromones in several forms (diffuser, collar, or spray) are available at many retailers.
- Mind the BBQ: Keep pets away from hot grills and human food. Have meals for them on hand (like CESAR Mini-Pouch) so they can join in the food celebration.
- Beat the Heat: On hot days, make sure your pet has shade and water. Remember, if you cannot hold the back of your hand on a surface for more than a few seconds, it’s too hot for your pet to walk on.
